Pastoral Statement from the Christian Conference of Connecticut on the Week of Prayer for Christian Unity, Jan. 18-24, 2009
Bishop Smith is a member (and president since 2004) of the Christian Conference of Connecticut, an organization that brings together the heads of Christian judicatories in Connecticut for mutual support and common advocacy.
The Episcopal Diocese of Connecticut has a relationship with the Roman Catholic Diocese of Norwich. There is also a formal covenant relationship among the Roman Catholic Diocese of Norwich, the Episcopal Diocese of Connecticut, and the Evangelical Lutheran Synod in America (ELCA).
Building on the formal agreement between The Episcopal Church and the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America, churches and people in the Diocese of Connecticut and the ELCA, New England Synod, work together. In the northwest corner of the state, Christ Church, Canaan; All Saints', Cornwall; and Trinity, Milton have a close relationship with St. Peter's ELCA, Cornwall. The pastor of St. Peter's and the vicar of Christ Church wrote a book together named Called To Common Mission.
Christ Church, Greenwich has long had a close relationship with its neighbor, Temple Shalom. It includes pulpit exchanges and some shared adult study groups.
The youth groups of some parishes in the Diocese are ecumenical; others take part in ecumenical and/or interfaith activities on occasion.
