Hispanic Ministry

For a time, the majority of Spanish-speaking residents in Connecticut came from Puerto Rico, but now people have come here from Mexico, Central and South America, and some of the Spanish-speaking islands of the Caribbean. People from all these backgrounds, bringing their different histories and cultures, can be found in Episcopal churches.

The diocese has two Hispanic churches, St. Luke's/St. Paul's in Bridgeport, and Iglesia Betania in South Norwalk. The Rev. Jose Diaz is missioner of both churches.

There is an intentionally multicultural congregation at St. James', New Haven. There are Spanish-speaking congregations established in Hartford, Meriden, New Britain, Ansonia, Salisbury, and Waterbury.

There is an annual Hispanic liturgical festival in November or December that gathers members and friends from across the diocese in a joyous celebration.
