Lay ministry takes place in the church and in the world.
Lay ministry in the church takes the form of service during the worship as a lector, lay eucharistic minister, pastoral visitor, or lay reader; or in leadership and participation in the governance and work of the church. These roles are a priviledge and a responsibility, and except for lector, require invitation and permission from the priest as well as license by the bishop. Click below for license applications.
Lay ministry in the world takes the form of modeling, witnessing, and sharing faith at home, work, and in the community. More information about lay ministry is available from the Office of Ministry Development of The Episcopal Church.
